Born in Acqui Terme on 12 July 1975, Diego Bormida attended the Liceo Scientifico in our city, determined from an early age to be a painter, and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he graduated in pictorial decoration and where he subsequently worked, in collaboration with prof. Beppe del Debbio, to the Medici villa of Calenzano.<\/p>

The Florentine period proved decisive for the formation of the young and multifaceted artist, who was able to successfully follow various complementary courses: techniques of marble and semi-precious stones, foundry, sculpture technology, photography, history of architecture, mass media. , phenomenology of contemporary arts. In this way he has innervated the congenital aptitudes to drawing and painting of solid technical and cultural skills.<\/p>

At the same time he combined grammar with practice. Four years in Rome, where he collaborated with various artists, allowed him to thoroughly acquire the secrets of the trade, but without calming down and settling into the comfortable measures of the ordinary. And perhaps this is precisely where the real secret lies and – we would say – the stigma that distinguishes the craftsman from the genius artist. Jobs’s motto is perfectly suited to a talent who, despite being very young, already has an enviable curriculum to his credit and nevertheless proves to look beyond, to have more ambitious goals.<\/p>

Now we cannot help but go back to the most important stages in the career of this promising Acquese artist who in 1997, at the age of twenty-two, won the “David Molinari” competition, organized by the Florentine Academy of Fine Arts, with a half-length porcelain stoneware now on display in the municipal library of Figline Val d’Arno.<\/p>

The following year, still paired with prof. del Debbio, he tried his hand at decorating a private chapel on the Antinori estate in Bolgheri and then went, alone, for over two years, to create faux marble, trompe-l’oeil, ceilings decorated with skies and gazebos in the royal palace of one of the princes of Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh.<\/p>

After that, in 2004, he restored a dozen ceilings in the eighteenth-century Villa Scati, in Quartino di Melazzo.<\/p>

It will be said that so far we have remained in the field of applied art, where the freedom of the artist is strongly conditioned, on the one hand, by the needs (and tastes) of the client and, on the other, by the available spaces and their specific destination: consideration certainly not devoid of truth, but remember that the skill of an artist lies precisely in taking charge of the imposed limitations and transforming them creatively into occasions for easy performances.<\/p>

Diego knows how to accept challenges, without getting discouraged. And above all without becoming fossilized in a job, in an activity. In his case, art is more than a profession: it is a passion, a pleasure, a fun.<\/p>

He prefers experimentation to specialization, contamination to seclusion, eclecticism to uniformity. In fact, he casually spends from painting to sculpture, from decoration to scenography, from restoration to interior furnishings.<\/p>

It would take too long (and even boring) to insist on a mere listing, but we cannot ignore its participation – sponsored by the well-known brand “Baci e Abbracci” – in the international exhibitions held in 2007 in Milan, as well as in the filming of films such as Il Gioiellino by Andrea Molaioli, shot in Acqui Terme (2010), and Il Vedovo by Massimo Venier (2012), with Fabio De Luigi and Luciana Littizzetto.<\/p>

Scene painter, he feels completely at ease in modernity, where the spaces of decoration have been enormously expanded, finding unprecedented applications, in fact, even in the theater, in the cinema, in events organized for spectacular or celebratory purposes, and where, after the excesses due to the detachment from the architecture, the decorative effects return to be sought in the quality of the materials, in the refinement and preciousness of the execution, in the stylistic congruence between the whole and the parts.<\/p>

From what we have personally seen and ascertained, it seems to us that Diego interprets the needs of modernity without hesitation and without subjection. We are convinced, for example, that the great artists of the Renaissance and the Baroque – from Raphael to Leonardo, from Michelangelo to Caravaggio – remain irremovable touchstones for him, but that he tries to adapt their lesson to today’s world, renewing it and – if possible – reinventing it.<\/p>

Today we are immersed in a civilization that differs from those of the past for its dynamic aspects and for its global values. The “liquid” society in which we live constantly burns models and values, under the banner of the ephemeral and the transient, of interculturality, and even art gets involved, borrowing patterns, themes and styles from cinema and photography . The risk is to conform to fashions, but, in this case, it can be remedied with irony, with the critical detachment or with the personal and perhaps alienating reinvention of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu, of the casts, of the topoi.<\/p>

Diego, a few days ago, confessed to us his passion for bodypainting, which makes a canvas of the female body. By means of a mixed technique and the skilful mixing of warm colors and glitters, the skin can be transformed, with its sinuosity and its chiaroscuro, into a mobile painting, into a flowering of images that can in turn be enhanced by light, by a careful manipulation of headlights and spotlights in order to evoke suggestive atmospheres. Above all – we think – this particular technique lends itself to enhancing the extemporaneousness, because the body surface has a three-dimensionality that, except for artifices or specific adaptations, is missing from the canvas and, for this very reason, it can act as a guide or as a stimulus to the imagination. , suggesting unexpected solutions to the artist, born, so to speak, on the spot, from the inspiration of the moment. And precisely for this reason the espace d\u2019un matin, or rather d\u2019un soir, is destined to last. But this – if you like – is the curse of today’s art, which sacrifices duration to the \u00e9pate of fashion or to the exploits of spectacularization.<\/p>

In 2007 Diego began to collaborate with “Fidelity Arts”, the renowned art house in Los Angeles for which the flower of modern art works. It deals, among other things, with the furnishing and artistic and pictorial decoration of cruise ships of companies such as “Cunard Lines” and “Princess Cruises”. From then on he performed his pictorial interventions (oil paintings, murals, floral or Art Nouveau decorations, fake marbles, restorations) aboard sumptuous transatlantic liners of the caliber of the “Queen Victoria”, the “Emerald Princess”, of the “Grand Princess”, the “Queen Elizabeth”, the “Royal Princess” and also the “Regal Princess”, the flagship of the “Princess Cruises”, as well as the Italian “Costa Luminosa”. Between the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2016 he obtained and carried out his most important commission: two ceilings of over 200 square meters depicting the Story of Hercules and his marriage to Hera, daughter of Zeus, after studying for months Greek mythology and having prepared dozens of sketches and preparatory drawings.<\/p>

In the same location, Villa Bellissima, one of the largest and most luxurious villas in America, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, presented its new collection of oil paintings on canvas. Along with him were James Coleman, Dorit Levi and Kira. He also participated, with his own bronze sculpture, in an event in a gallery in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California, the FAB ART GALLERY.<\/p>

Also in 2016 he created a dome painted in the same Villa in Utah and a starry sky made with mixed media and optical fibers in another luxurious Villa in Wyoming, in Jackson.<\/p>

In September, on behalf of API RESINE, he created a 400 square meter artistic floor on the Royal Princess, owned by Princess Cruise Lines.<\/p>

In October he was in South Africa, in Johannesburg, where he made a body painting for a music video of English production.<\/p>

In December he was invited to Park City, the city of the Winter Olympics, in Utah, where he painted, reinterpreting it, the Creation of Adam, in the most fashionable club in the city. The Church Public House.<\/p>

2017 began with one of his works on display in Venice Beach, California, for an important event at the Fab Gallery, PALIMPSEST.<\/p>

In the same year he decorated the luxurious Majestic Princess.<\/p>

After receiving the certification from CHEMCO resins, in Scotland, he started the collaboration with Precetti USA and Carnival Cruise Line, for the realization of artistic pools on board cruise ships.<\/p>

In December he inaugurated his collaboration with the famous SANTERO winery, creating the 958 SANTERO CALAVERA line, presented at the final episode of the Big Brother Vip.<\/p>

2018 began with the decoration of 3 Carnival ships in the Caribbean, an API resin decoration on the Majestic Princess in Japan and a long “BODYPAINTING Tour” throughout Italy, to present the 958 SANTERO bottle collection. Bottles also present at Isola dei Famosi, at Big Brother VIP and in other highly successful television broadcasts. Also in the shipyards of the Bahamas and then on a cruise in the Caribbean Sea, the artist created the design of the new water play area of \u200b\u200bthe Caribbean Princess, drawing the geometric patterns that decorate the pool and deck 18, as well as the new ones INSTAGRAM WALLS and a big whale entirely painted with the aergraph.<\/p>

In 2019 he made numerous paintings aboard the new SKY Princess, and of these, the last painting was made during the first inaugural cruise from Miami to Paradise Island, Bahamas.<\/p>

In 2020 the artist’s works come aboard the brand new Enchanted Princess, launched in Trieste.<\/p>

The collaboration with Santero Wines continues to give great satisfaction also in 2021, with about ten artist bottles already made and new bottles on the way. Connected to Santero’s sponsorships is the world of rallying and drifting, in which Diego has entered by creating events and decorating the liveries of some cars participating in the Italian and world championship.<\/p>

We just have to wish the Acquese painter a good journey and new successes in the professional field, in the hope that he will find a way and time to paint also in the traditional sense of the term: for himself and, perhaps, for posterity. Nato ad Acqui Terme il 12 Luglio 1975, ha frequentato il Liceo Scientifico nella nostra citt\u00e0, determinato fin da piccolo a fare il pittore, ed ha poi frequentato l\u2019Accademia di Belle Arti a Firenze, dove si \u00e8 diplomato in Decorazione pittorica e dove ha successivamente lavorato, in collaborazione con il prof. Beppe del Debbio, alla villa medicea di Calenzano.<\/em><\/p>

Il periodo fiorentino si \u00e8 rilevato decisivo per la formazione del giovane e poliedrico artista, che ha potuto seguire con profitto vari corsi complementari: tecniche del marmo e delle pietre dure, fonderia, tecnologia della scultura, fotografia, storia dell\u2019architettura, mass-media, fenomenologia delle arti contemporanee. In tal modo egli ha innervato le congenite attitudini al disegno e alla pittura di solide competenze tecniche e culturali.<\/em>
Nello stesso tempo alla grammatica ha affiancato la pratica. Quattro anni a Roma, dove ha collaborato con diversi artisti, gli hanno consentito di acquisire a fondo i segreti del mestiere, ma senza per questo acquietarsi e adagiarsi nelle comode misure dell\u2019ordinariet\u00e0. E forse proprio qui sta il vero segreto e \u2013 diremmo \u2013 lo stigma che distingue il mestierante dall\u2019artista di genio. Il motto jobsiano si attaglia alla perfezione a un talento che, pur essendo giovanissimo, ha gi\u00e0 al suo attivo un invidiabile curriculum e nondimeno dimostra di guardare oltre, di avere mete pi\u00f9 ambiziose.<\/em>
Ora non possiamo fare a meno di riandare alle tappe pi\u00f9 importanti della carriera di questo promettente artista acquese che nel 1997, a soli ventidue anni, vinse il concorso \u201cDavid Molinari\u201d, organizzato dall\u2019Accademia fiorentina di Belle Arti, con un mezzo busto in gres porcellanato ora esposto nella biblioteca comunale di Figline Val d\u2019Arno.<\/em>
L\u2019anno dopo, ancora in coppia con il prof. del Debbio, si ciment\u00f2 nella decorazione di una cappella privata nella tenuta degli Antinori a Bolgheri e pass\u00f2 quindi, da solo, per oltre due anni, a realizzare finti marmi, trompe-l\u2019oeil, soffitti decorati con cieli e gazebo nel palazzo reale di uno dei principi dell\u2019Arabia Saudita, a Riyadh.<\/em>
Dopo di che, nel 2004, ha restaurato una decina di soffitti nella settecentesca Villa Scati, al Quartino di Melazzo.<\/em>
Si dir\u00e0 che finora siamo rimasti nel campo dell\u2019arte applicata, dove la libert\u00e0 dell\u2019artista \u00e8 fortemente condizionata, per un verso, dalle esigenze (e dai gusti) della committenza e, per l\u2019altro, dagli spazi disponibili e dalla loro specifica destinazione: considerazione non certo priva di verit\u00e0, ma ricordiamo che la bravura di un artista sta appunto nel farsi carico delle limitazioni imposte e nel trasformarle creativamente in occasioni di spigliate performances.<\/em>
Diego sa accettare le sfide, senza scoraggiarsi. E soprattutto senza fossilizzarsi in una mansione, in un\u2019attivit\u00e0. L\u2019arte, nel suo caso, \u00e8 pi\u00f9 di un mestiere: \u00e8 una passione, un piacere, un divertimento.<\/em>
Alla specializzazione egli preferisce la sperimentazione, alla clausura la contaminazione, all\u2019uniformit\u00e0 l\u2019eclettismo. Egli trascorre infatti con disinvoltura dalla pittura alla scultura, dalla decorazione alla scenografia, dal restauro all\u2019arredo di interni.<\/em><\/p>

Sarebbe troppo lungo (ed anche noioso) insistere in una mera elencazione, ma non si pu\u00f2 sottacere la sua partecipazione \u2013 sponsorizzata dal noto marchio \u201cBaci e Abbracci\u201d \u2013 alle mostre internazionali tenutesi nel 2007 a Milano, nonch\u00e9 alle riprese di films come Il Gioiellino di Andrea Molaioli, girato ad Acqui Terme (2010), e Il Vedovo di Massimo Venier (2012), con Fabio De Luigi e Luciana Littizzetto.<\/em>
Pittore di scena, egli si sente pienamente a suo agio nella modernit\u00e0, dove gli spazi della decorazione si sono enormemente ampliati, trovando inedite applicazioni, appunto, anche nel teatro, nel cinema, negli eventi organizzati a fini spettacolari o celebrativi, e dove, dopo gli eccessi dovuti al distacco dall\u2019architettura, gli effetti decorativi tornano ad essere ricercati nella qualit\u00e0 dei materiali, nella finezza e preziosit\u00e0 della esecuzione, nella congruenza stilistica tra il tutto e le parti.<\/em>
Da quanto abbiamo personalmente visto e constatato ci sembra che Diego interpreti senza titubanze e senza sudditanze le esigenze della modernit\u00e0. Siamo convinti, ad esempio, che i grandi artisti del Rinascimento e del Barocco \u2013 da Raffaello a Leonardo, da Michelangelo a Caravaggio \u2013 restino per lui delle pietre di paragone inamovibili, ma che egli cerchi di adeguare al mondo di oggi la loro lezione, rinnovandola e \u2013 se possibile \u2013 reinventandola.<\/em>
Oggi siamo immersi in una civilt\u00e0 che si differenzia da quelle del passato per i suoi aspetti dinamici e per le sue valenze globali. La societ\u00e0 \u201cliquida\u201d in cui viviamo brucia di continuo modelli e valori, all\u2019insegna dell\u2019effimero e del transeunte, dell\u2019interculturalit\u00e0, ed anche l\u2019arte si mette in gioco, mutuando dal cinema e dalla fotografia schemi, temi e stilemi. Il rischio \u00e8 quello di conformarsi alle mode, ma, in questo caso, si pu\u00f2 rimediare con l\u2019ironia, con il distacco critico o con la reinvenzione personale e magari straniante del d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu, dei calchi, dei topoi.<\/em><\/p>

Diego, giorni or sono, ci confessava la sua passione per la\u00a0bodypainting<\/strong>, che fa del corpo femminile una tela. Mediante una tecnica mista e la sapiente miscelazione di colori caldi e di glitters si pu\u00f2 trasformare l\u2019epidermide, con le sue sinuosit\u00e0 e i suoi chiaroscuri, in un quadro mobile, in una fioritura di immagini che possono a loro volta essere valorizzate dalla luce, da un\u2019accorta manipolazione di fari e faretti.In modo da evocare atmosfere suggestive. Oltre tutto \u2013 pensiamo \u2013 questa tecnica particolare si presta a valorizzare l\u2019estemporaneit\u00e0, perch\u00e9 la superficie corporea ha una tridimensionalit\u00e0 che, salvo artifici o specifici adattamenti, manca alla tela e, proprio per questo, pu\u00f2 fungere da guida o da stimolo all\u2019 immaginazione, suggerendo all\u2019 artista soluzioni impensate, nate per cos\u00ec dire l\u00ec per l\u00ec, dall\u2019 estro del momento. E proprio per questo destinate a durare l\u2019espace d\u2019un matin, anzi d\u2019un soir. Ma questa \u2013 se vogliamo \u2013 \u00e8 la maledizione dell\u2019arte odierna, che sacrifica la durata all\u2019 \u00e9pate della moda o agli exploits della spettacolarizzazione.<\/em>
Nel 2007 Diego ha preso a collaborare con la \u201cFidelity Arts\u201d, la rinomata casa d\u2019arte di Los Angeles per la quale lavora il fior fiore dell\u2019arte moderna. Essa si occupa, tra l\u2019altro, dell\u2019arredamento e della decorazione artistica e pittorica delle navi da crociera di compagnie come la \u201cCunard Lines\u201d e la \u201cPrincess Cruises\u201d. Da allora in poi egli ha eseguito i suoi interventi pittorici (dipinti a olio, murales, decori di gusto floreale o Art Nouveau, finti marmi, restauri) a bordo di sontuosi transatlantici del calibro della \u201cQueen Victoria\u201d, della \u201cEmerald Princess\u201d, della \u201cGrand Princess\u201d, della \u201cQueen Elizabeth\u201d, della \u201cRoyal Princess\u201d ed anche della \u201cRegal Princess\u201d, l\u2019ammiraglia della \u201cPrincess Cruises\u201d, nonch\u00e8 dell\u2019 Italiana \u201cCosta Luminosa\u201d. Tra la fine del 2014 e l\u2019 inizio del 2016 ha ottenuto e realizzato la sua piu\u2019 importante commissione: due soffitti di oltre 200 metri quadrati raffiguranti la Storia di Ercole e del suo matrimonio con Era, figlia di Zeus, dopo aver studiato per mesi la mitologia greca e aver preparato decine di bozzetti e disegni preparatori.<\/em>
Nella stessa location, Villa Bellissima, una delle piu\u2019 grandi e lussuose ville d\u2019 America, situata a Salt Lake City, Utah, ha presentato la sua nuova collezione di dipinti ad olio su tela. Insieme a lui erano presenti James Coleman, Dorit Levi e Kira. Sempre nel 2016 ha realizzato un cupolone dipinto nella stessa Villa in Utah e un cielo stellato realizzato con tecnica mista e fibre ottiche in un\u2019 altra lussuosissima Villa nel Wyoming, a Jackson.<\/em>
A Settembre, per conto di API RESINE, ha realizzato un pavimento artistico di 400 metri quadrati sulla Royal Princess, della Princess Cruise Lines.<\/em>
A Ottobre \u00e8 stato in Sud Africa, a Johannesburg, dove ha realizzato un body painting per un video musicale di produzione Inglese.<\/em>

Dopo aver ricevuto la certificazione dalla CHEMCO resine, in Scozia, Ha iniziato la collaborazione con Precetti USA e Carnival Cruise Line, per la realizzazione di piscina artistiche a bordo delle navi da Crociera.<\/em>
A Dicembre ha inaugurato la sua collaborazione con la Famosa Azienda vinicola SANTERO, realizzando la linea 958 SANTERO CALAVERA, Presentata alla puntata finale del Grande Fratello Vip.<\/em>
Il 2018 \u00e8 iniziato con la decorazione di 3 navi Carnival ai Caraibi, una decorazione in resina API sulla Majestic Princess in Jappone ed un lungo “BODYPAINTING Tour” in tutta Italia, per presentare la collezione di bottiglie 958 SANTERO. Bottiglie presenti anche all\u2019 Isola dei Famosi, al grande Fratello VIP ed in altre trasmissioni televisive di grande successo. Sempre nei cantieri navali delle Bahamas e poi in Crociera nel mar dei Caraibi, l’ artista ha realizzato il design della nuova area giochi d’ acqua della Caribbean Princess, disegnando i motivi geometrici che decorano la piscina ed il ponte 18, nonche’ i nuovi INSTAGRAM WALLS ed una grossa balena interamente dipinta con l’ aeregrafo.<\/em><\/p>

Nel 2019 ha realizzato numerosi dipinti a bordo della nuova SKY Princess, e di questi, l’ultimo dipinto e’ stato realizzato durante la prima crociera inaugurale da Miami a Paradise Island, Bahamas.<\/em><\/p>

Nel 2020 le opere dell’ artista salgono a bordo della nuovissima Enchanted Princess, varata a Trieste.<\/em><\/p>

Nel 2021, per la prima volta a bordo di una Norwegian Cruise Line, la Breackaway, ha dipinto i vari personaggi del parco Acqatico.<\/p>

Nel 2022 e\u2019 stata la volta della Royal Caribbean, la Radiance of the SEAS, anche qui per la prima volta a bordo di questa compagnia navale. E anche in questa occasione si e\u2019occupato della decorazione di un intero parco acquatico.<\/p>

La collaborazione con Santero Wines continua a dare grandi soddisfazioni anche nel 2022, con 12 di bottiglie d’ artista gia’ realizzate e nuove bottiglie in arrivo. Collegato alle sponsorizzazioni di Santero e’ il mondo dei rally e del Drifting, in cui Diego e’ entrato realizzando eventi e decorando le livree di alcune macchine che partecipano al campionato italiano e mondiale.<\/p>

Nuovissimo e\u2019anche il murales di 36 metri nei nuovi spazi della SANERO Wines.<\/p>

Non ci resta che augurare al pittore acquese buon viaggio e nuovi successi in campo professionale, nella speranza che egli trovi modo e tempo per dipingere anche nel senso tradizionale del termine: per s\u00e9 e, magari, per i posteri.
